Sant Cugat del Vallès (usually called just Sant Cugat) is a lovely town west of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It's a very popular suburb of Barcelona due to the beautiful natural surroundings and its great location approximately 10 kilometres from the city centre. Sant Cugat was named after 'San Cucufate' (Saint Cucuphas, feast day 25th July), a martyr of Spain who was martyred on the site that is now occupied by the 'Monestir de Sant Cugat', an impressive medieval monastery surrounded by a gorgeous garden. The 'UPC Escuela de Arquitectura del Valles' (School of Architecture) and the famous sport training centre 'CAR Centre d'Alt Rendiment' (High Performance Centre) are located in Sant Cugat.
Sant Cugat is a quiet town where many professional people live with their families, even if they work in Barcelona downtown. You can find fantastic houses with big gardens and modern apartment blocks with communal areas with swimming pools. Some of the most important neighbourhoods of Sant Cugat del Valles are the charming old-fashioned 'Eixample', the modern residential areas of 'Parc Central' and 'Coll Favà', the Golf Club area called 'Can Trabal' and some zones where wealthy Barcelona residents have their big holiday houses (like Valldoreix area).
The lovely town of Sant Cugat has its own train station with a direct subway connection into downtown Barcelona and other cities like Terrassa and Sabadell (industrial cities of Catalonia).
