About es Migjorn Gran, Menorca

Es Migjorn Gran is a town located on the centre-south area of the island of Minorca in the Balearic Islands, Spain. It has 1522 inhabitants (INE 2008) and 32 km2 long. Es Migjorn Gran has well known beaches and the most important ones are called Sant Tomàs (St. Thomas) and Binigaus.
 
Joan Riudavets was an inhabitant of Es Migjorn Gran. He was born in 1889 and was the oldest person in the world between May 2003 and March 2004.
 
The town is also known by its traditional celebration ‘Migjorn San Cristóbal’. It is held in the centre of town during the fifth weekend of July or the first of August.
