Majorca (Mallorca in Spanish) is the largest island of Spain. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is part of the Balearic Islands archipelago. The capital of Majorca is called Palma and is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The official languages are Mallorquin (a Catalan dialect) and Spanish.
People are attracted by the natural beauty of Majorca Island and by its Mediterranean climate with cold mild rainy winters and warm sunny summers. Majorca is a very popular tourist destination and also has a high number of residents from many other parts of Europe such as Germany and United Kingdom. Majorca Island has crowded lively areas and quiet lonely zones as well. Almost half of its population lives in Palma, the capital (around 414,000 habitants). Other populated areas are Calvia (48,000), Manacor (38,000), Llucmajor (33,000), Marratxi (31,000), Inca (28,300) and Pollensa (16,500). The least populated area is called Escorca and only has around 300 habitants.
Majorca Airport 'Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca' or 'Aeropuerto Internacional de Son Sant Joan' and is 8 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca city centre. It has regular flights to other islands such as Ibiza and Mahon, to Spanish cities (Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Alicante and Bilbao, among others) and to many European cities such as United Kingdom and Germany. There’s a smaller airport in the island called Aeropuerto de Son Bonet that is mainly used by helicopters and private planes. Majorca also has important ports where people can get boats that connect the island with cities such as Barcelona, Valencia or Sête (France).
