About Hortaleza, Madrid

Hortaleza is a district of Madrid located to the northeast. Its neighbourhoods are: Pinar del Rey, Canillas, Valdefuentes (Hortaleza), Apóstol Santiago, Piovera y Palomas. In Pinar del Rey we find the old quarter Villa de Hortaleza.

From a social and economical point of view Hortaleza is a heterogeneous district, although over the last couple of years the high prices of houses have increased the number of families with higher incomes. The percentage of immigrants is lower than the average of the districts of Madrid, but there’s a high number of immigrants from the European Union.

Hortaleza is mainly a residential area, with big houses in the areas of Conde de Orgaz and Las Cárcavas and smaller ones in zones like Pinar del Rey, Santa María, San Lorenzo, Manoteras or Canillas. The district has 50% more trees (16,400) than the average of the districts of Madrid.
