The Costa Brava is a famed coastal region of north eastern Catalonia, Spain (Cataluña in Spanish or Catalunya in Catalan).  It’s located in the province of Gerona, stretching from the river ‘Río La Tordera’ in Blanes up to Portbou on the French border.  Its magnificent beaches, natural richness and lovely weather attracted artists such as Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso in the past and still attract people form all over the world.

Costa Brava can be translated as 'Wild Coast'. The name actually reflects the spirit of an area that despite of being modern and highly developed still preserves exceptional natural sceneries. In 1998 coastal towns of the Costa Brava signed the agreement 'Carta de Tossa' to protect the natural environment.

Costa Brava has a large numbers of houses, apartments, restaurants, bars and hotels in seaside resorts like Tossa de Mar, Blanes, Lloret de Mar and l'Estartit, among many others.  Some of the most commercial areas in Costa Brava are Platja d’Aro, Blanes, Roses, L’Escala, L’Estartit, Palamós, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Lloret de Mar.  There are also other areas that still keep a charming and more traditional look & feel.

The areas that form the Costa Brava are connected by buses, trains and a good road network.  There are also roads and trains that connect the Costa Brava with Barcelona and France.  Gerona Airport (officially Gerona-Costa Brava Airport) is located at 13 kilometres from Gerona city and 100 kilometres from Barcelona city.  It’s a very important airport and one of Ryanair’s major operational base in Europe (Ryanair is an Irish low cost airline with headquarters in Dublin).
