About Villa Olimpica, Barcelona

The Villa Olimpica was built as a residence area for the sportsmen and sportswomen competing in Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. The well-known team Bohigas-Martorell-Mackay-Puigdomènech was responsible for the global design of the neighbourhood and its transformation into an urban area. Other architects – winners of the prestigious FAD awards – also participated in the project.
In Villa Olimpica there are some of the best restaurants specialized in seafood and fish. There are also bars and nightclubs and one of the most important universities of Barcelona – the Universidad Pompeu Fabra.
The modern Barcelona tram passes trough the Villa Olimpica and during the works for its installation some streets of the area – as the Calle Wellington – were restored.
