The main train station of Barcelona for national and international routes is located in the area - Estación de Sants (Sants Station).
Plaza España or Plaza de España (Plaça d’Espanya in Catalan) is located in the biggest and oldest area of the Sants-Montjuic district known simply as Sants. Opposite Plaza España there’s a great complex home of major business expositions - Alimentaria, Bread & Butter, among many others - called Fira de Barcelona. Near Plaza España there is also a famous bullring built in 1900 called Arenas de Barcelona, which is now being converted into a shopping centre.
Sants-Montjuïc is very diverse and so are its areas:
In the upper part of the district, above the famous street Gran Vía de las Corts Catalanes, are the neighbourhoods Sants-Hostafrancs-La Bordeta which are the neighbourhoods with more population.
Montjuic Mountain is a 137m peak that overlooks the modern port. Plaza Espanya lies on the edge of this mountain that was home of the International Exposition of 1929 in Barcelona and the Olympic Games in 1992. In the area you will find the Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Museu National d'Art Catalunya (MNAC), the Poble Espanyol and the Fundació Joan Miró. The castle of Montjuïc is a beautiful construction on the top of the mountain that now houses the Military Museum.
Another neighbourhood of Sants-Montjuic is called Poble-sec. Is a rather small urban area limited by the mountain, Lleida street and the avenues Josep Carner and Paral•lel.
La Marina-Zona Franca, also known as La Marina de Sants it used to be an agricultural area with many rural houses. In the mid 19th century, when factories inside the city were banned by Barcelona City Hall, this area was the perfect industrial choice since it had good transport links, big extension lands and water. So at the beginning of 20th century the area was basically the port, the industrial area and the population centre.
Other areas of Sant-Montjuic are Font de la Guatlla-Magòria - between Montjuïc and Gran Vía - and the port area.
