About Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

The Sagrada Familia is a neighbourhood that belongs to the Ensanche district of Barcelona (Eixample in Catalan) and it’s located in the upper part of this well-known and central Modernist area.
Without any doubt the most distinctive building of the barrio (neighbourhood) is the temple La Sagrada Familia created by architect Antoni Gaudi. The Sagrada Familia Cathedral is the most famous Gaudi’s the masterpiece and the only major temple in the world that is still under construction. Recently La Sagrada Familia overtook La Alhambra in Granada as Spains most visited tourist attraction.
Avenida Gaudi is a lively avenue that runs trought the Sagrada Familia neighbourhood and has many bars, cafes and restaurants. The avenue joins the Sagrada Familia Temple with another major Modernist cosntruction of Barcelona: the 'Hospital de la Santa Creu y Sant Pau' by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Both buildings – la Sagrada Familia and the Hospital – have been declared world heritage by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations established in 1945).
